Step 3

Express your hurt and anger:
It is not enough to simply identify the emotions, we need an effective way to express them…especially anger.
The word express means to press something out like squeezing juice from a lemon.  Expressing our destructive emotions is important because it gets them out of our system so they cannot poison us any longer.
Here are some ways to express them…
Talk with a trusted friend (someone who will listen without trying to problem solve);
Journal them…write them out;
Write a letter to the person who hurt you and tell them how you feel (but don’t give it to them);
If you don’t like to write, talk to an empty chair and express your hurt (imagine the offender sitting in the chair listening).
